7 Covid-19 wedding stationery tips and etiquette to help ease your mind.
Send a save the date
If you’re getting married this year, chances are some of your guest’s may be double booked with previously planned affairs or other postponed weddings and events. It’s best to give your guests at least 8-12 months notice (if not more) with sending out a save the date card.
Wedding invitation
None of us have a crystal ball or know what things will look like in 3, 6, 9 or 12 months from now. Although science is making leaps and strides with the development and administration of Covid-19 vaccines, we don’t know what gathering and traveling restrictions will be in place on your wedding day.
Wedding invitations are one of the first (or second if you’re sending save the dates!) touch points you have to communicate with your guests about your upcoming nuptials. Since wedding invitations are planned and sent out months in advance, it’s impossible to forecast how many guests will actually be allowed at your event. We’re happy to quote your desired invitation quantity, however, we understand that things may change. We’ve come up with some creative solutions on how to best handle these changing times.
Option 1: Wedding Invitation Design
We’re happy to send over a quote based on your desired invitation quantity. Since wedding invitation pricing varies greatly on the quantity, materials and print method, we don’t want you to feel like you’re tied to a quantity that you might not actually be able to use. Instead, we can book you in with our design deposit and get started on the fun part! Once your invitation designs are completed and approved, we’ll ask for an update on your final numbers and can provide an updated revised final invoice for the new materials cost. If you need to halt production and postpone, no worries! We’re happy to update your new date, time and location and print and produce closer to your new date.
Option 2: List A and B
We recommend making an A and B (and maybe even C) lists and sending out your invitations in 2 or 3 waves. Chances are, some of your guests may not be comfortable attending a wedding just yet. Once you receive your RSVPs back from list A, you can determine how many you can send out to list B (and possibly C).
Option 3: Covid Card
If you want to extend an invitation to everyone you hope could be at your wedding, that’s an option too! In this case, we recommend including either a covid update card or if you need to, a politely worded change of plans card. More on those below!
Covid Insert card
If you need to inform your guests of anticipated changes, this is a great option to include with your invitation. Here you can communicate any changes, health and safety measures, and a link to your wedding website for guests to receive up to the minute changes.
Change of plans card
If you’ve had to make any adjustments to your wedding and guest capacity due to current restrictions or if you have had to change your plans entirely, a change of plans card is a great tool to communicate those updates. If you have already mailed your invites and need to send an update, you can work with your stationery designer to either create a physical mailed copy or digital version to send to your guests. Your guests will surely understand that this is out of your control and that the decision comes from circumstances far from your control.
Change the date card
If you have made the decision to postpone your wedding to a future date, informing your guests via a Change the date card is a great way to do that. This will allow your guests to make any changes on their end and plan accordingly to the new date and plans you’ve laid out.
Safety signage
You want your guests to feel welcome and comfortable during your wedding! Working with your stationery designer, we can create any additional day of stationery items that you may need including but not limited to welcome signs, direction signage, seating chart, table numbers, menu cards, place cards, wedding programs, health and safety signage for sanitization stations and even labels or tags for favours such as mini hand sanitizers.
Thank you cards
Mail out your thank you cards 3-6 months after your wedding! You’ll want to make sure you send out a thank you card to everyone who attended your special day, those who celebrated virtually or from afar, those who couldn’t make it and sent you a gift and of course your dream team of wedding vendors! You can work with your wedding stationer and/or photographer to create your thank you cards.
